Brigitte Brandeau

Throughout my education; Sorbonne University (Fine Arts) and the Ateliers de Beaux Arts de Paris, I always addressed sculpture as both theory and practical, intimately linked…

I continued as a professional sculptor. At the same time I spent many years working with the creation and animation of characters in 2D and 3D for cinema and television.Three years ago I opened my own workshop and began teaching sculpture courses to adults...

I believe that it is essential to feed our imagination while developing our physical abilities….The visual memory, the sensations, the emotions are precious elements and indispensable for the creative process…
All that which surrounds us, both art and non-art, helps our imagination to bubble..
My courses have always held this double component of theory and practical, it is therefore natural that I offer courses with this configuration.

I have worked with objects, both real and imaginary, seeking to recreate modern mythology based on derisory, banal subjects. I have gleaned traces, prints, signs, which I have re-transcribed in imaginary writings…patient, detailled recitals of a wild plastic wandering..
I have created characters, modeled from those around me, experimented with every sort of molding…I have searched..

With time, my sculpture has evolved towards more ephemeral shapes, changing ones, more subtle…As paradoxical as that may sound, I love shapes which disappear… I love leaves of trees, the wings of birds, of angels, shapes which leave gravity behind….
I continue to search... As everyone knows.....the perfect shape has yet to be imagined…
